This week has be full of miracles and our hard work is finally starting to pay off and we are building that bass that we need. Today we had a zone wide Pday and the whole zone came to Alicante and we were able to play soccer together which was super fun and then we went to Domino’s Pizza and they have unlimited pizza for 5 Euros so that was super fun.
This week here in Spain is holy week. It is huge here and everyone gets off work and school all week and it is kind of like Easter. They have it because a long time ago the Muslims and the Catholics had a huge war here but then they learned to get along so every year they have a celebration. Every night this past week the Catholics carry around a huge statue of Virgin Mary threw the streets and the whole town follows it for 2 hours through the streets. They also have a band following it playing music. The weird part is that all the people carrying it and the people following it are wearing KKK uniforms so that cool.
So the other day I decided to go through the phone and call all the numbers who we didn’t know which was a lot. Elder Fisher doesn’t like to talk on the phone so I had to do it. So I started calling everyone on there. There were a lot of people who got mad and hung up so we deleted there number but I set up about 5 citas for next week just by doing that which is awesome. So one guy named Matias said he wanted to meet with us the next day so we did. We got there and invited us to sit down and he is about 25 years old and we look around his apartment and he has smoking stuff everywhere and it smelled really bad like smoke so I was a little worried. We started the lesson and he was super great. He was contacted by other missionaries in a park and he said he wanted to hear more but nobody ever called him. So we started with Lesson 0 which just kind of introduces our purpose and what we will be doing teaching him. Then we showed him the #Becausehelives video and the spirit was instantly there and we just sat in silence for about 15 seconds after (a good silence). Then I told him that that feeling is the spirit telling him that this is the path he needs to take. He said he felt that and that it was amazing. The spirit was so strong the rest of the lesson and he was agreeing to everything and when we brought out the book of Mormon he took it out of our hands and said he wanted to read it. He kept talking about how he didn’t like all the Catholics in Spain because they just recite their prayers and they don’t live the rules and the gospel that they say they believe and everything he was saying perfectly lined up with our church. He even said if he finds out this church is true threw praying he would be baptized!!! We have another cita on Wednesday so I am super excited and I hope that he can quit smoking!
Another awesome story is the we were eating at a member house and they said that some lady named Maria Jose was talking to hear the other day and said that she saw that there was new missionaries here and she wanted to talk to them. The story is that Maria Jose investigated the church about a year ago and she was about to get baptized and right before she ran off and wouldn’t meet with the missionaries anymore. So we went over there this week and found out that she had felt that the missionaries had pushed her too hard too fast and that she wasn’t ready. We asked her if she had received an answer that this was right for her and she said when the missionaries first met with her that she felt something she had never felt before and she felt it when she would listen to them, read, pray and go to church and we said well that’s your answer and she said she can only take our word for it so she is lacking faith but she has a testimony so we are going to be working with her.
Biggest miracle of the week was on Tuesday we had nothing planed so I decided to do the 100 contact challenge which is contacting 100 people in one day (a lot harder than it sounds) so I was going around talking to people and we are walking threw a park and there was a couple sitting on the bench and we just walked past them and I had a strong prompting to go and talk to them so I flipped around and started talking to them. They weren’t very interested but said that they are in that park a lot and if they saw them to talk to them (everyone says that) and I thought it was super weird that I was prompted to talk to them and they didn’t want anything. So a few days later we were walking through the park because a member that we eat with once a week who never fails us did so we were walking home to eat and we see them so I run over there to talk to them and we teach them the first lesson and it went really well and we said lets meet here tomorrow and 6 so then we left. The next day we went and we were a little early so we sat there and waited and they didn’t show up then it was past 6 and we were about to leave when this lady ran up to us (all the back story was just so show what all led up to this happening) she asked if we spoke Spanish and started just talking our ear off. She told us this long story. Her husband was a member of the church for many years but died about a year ago (she was crying telling us this) and that they had missionaries over all the time to eat because they lived in Utah for some time and that she always loved them so much and they would teach her but she was never interested in being baptized then they moved back here and he husband died. A couple month ago she was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and wasn’t supposed to survive the treatments and she was in the hospital for many months. In the final surgery to try to save her live (all or nothing) she died. But then she came back. Right before she woke up she heard a voice tell her that she has something left to do. She recovered fast and the doctors said she was a miracle and the day we talked to her was the first day that she was able to leave her house. I told her that we were supposed to cross paths and that God wanted us to meet and we have what you need. She agreed with me. This story sounds super crazy and fake but the spirit was unbelievable as she poured her heart out to us and we told her that we met for a reason that there is no way I can deny her story.
So we have and amazing transfer ahead of us :)
Also we had a zone meeting this week and they announced that we are having a mission wide devotional with 2 general authorities coming to speak to us so that is super excited but it is in Seville which is about 10 traveling away.. Also they announced that we will all be getting IPads there!! And we are turning into a technology mission! So the second week of May we will all have iPads which is super exciting oh and also the general authorities is exciting!
Oh and general conference was awesome we were able to watch all the sessions in English that was nice for a change. We had a crazy day on Sunday packed full of just conference. We watched Saturday morning at 6 on Saturday then Priesthood at 11 on Sunday the Saturday evening at 2 the Sunday morning at 6 and Sunday night at 10PM and we got to stay out late to watch that. The talks were all amazing and when you are a missionary watching they are 10 times better. It was sad to hear people oppose the prophet.
This was the best week so far of these first 6 so it was super nice and amazing and we have some amazing thing ahead of us hopefully :)
